What EV Charging Is All About

If you are an electric vehicle (EV) fanatic, then perhaps you are aware of Tesla. It has been the industry leader in the EV market, setting standards for EV production involving almost all the equipment and accessories needed for an EV to run. These include chargers and charging stations for your EV. Meanwhile, you most likely also have heard about different stories on how EV works, particularly the charging options. There are claims that it may take up to 20 hours long to fully charge an EV battery. However, you might be relieved to know that the Tesla charger is capable of adding 75 miles of range to your driving distance in just five minutes.

Now, how long does it really takes to fully charge an EV? It actually depends on many things such as power source, the charging equipment used, and the charging capacity of the electric vehicle itself. The standard for EV when it comes to charging is a Level 1 charger that is mostly found in residential charging stations. However, with the advances made with the Tesla charger, this standard is altering. In particular, the Mobile Connector that comes with all Tesla EVs is a dual Level 1 and Level 2 charging.

As to their Wall Connector charging option, it is somehow pretty similar to other offerings but is able to provide 44 miles of range per hour. This means that Tesla charger users can plug their EVs over the course of one night and can wake up to a fully charged vehicle for the day’s ride. One important thing to take note of is the fact that charging equipment used is typically restricted by the onboard charging capacity of the car itself. What it tells you is that instead of being bothered by the brand, it’s wiser to consider your own energy needs and which charging option works best for you.

If you need more security and speed for your driving, then a 240V charging station would be a better option. But if you only need your EV for short distances, a 120V may be what you just have to get.er.
