Vital Aerial Equipment To Consider Before Undertaking Cable Installation

Deploying cables or fiber optics above ground on towers eliminates the need to dig underground. Aerial cable installation is particularly a better option if the underground condition is rocky or not suitable for digging and installing conduits. Not to mention that this installation method is usually much less expensive than below-the-ground installation. However, it does not mean that you should take things easy and uncalculated because you still need to think about the list of aerial equipment to consider prior to performing the installation.

Once you have carefully planned what aerial equipment and tools to use, the aerial installation offers good reasons why it’s a good option. First, deploying fibers overhead is usually faster and cheaper to do than burying them underground. Second, all-dielectric self-supporting or ADSS cables are possible to install or mount near power transmission lines. Third, this means you can share on the same pole for the new cable line which decreases overall installation costs while making the installation process a lot faster without the need to make another line.

So now, for the aerial equipment to include, it depends on the design of the cable plant to be installed. But in general, what you will need are cable jackets that are made from polyethylene material with recommended carbon black for UV radiation absorption. The carbon black is used to protect the plastic jacket of the cable. Moreover, you will also need a list of survey equipment and tools such as a digital camera, GPS with tracking function, DCP tester, and more.

In case you still need to erect poles because there are no existing ones in place yet, you will need hole-digging tools such as shovels earth augers, crowbars, and drills. And of course, you will need all the aerial equipment and supporting tools such as lifts and ladders. Lastly, don’t forget to think about everyone’s safety which means wearing personal protective equipment like boots, gloves, shoulder pads, and hardhat.
