The Safety Features to Check In Indoor Playground

Though you can’t protect your children from getting injured at all times, particularly when they are active in playing, knowing what to look for in a safe indoor playground is a perfect way to start. Playgrounds are specially made to allow your kids to have fun and play safely even if they tend to get hurt most of the time. In fact, a lot of children are being admitted into the emergency rooms each year due to playground-related injuries. Hence, in order to minimize the risk of injury in playgrounds, pay attention to playground safety features that can give you peace of mind by keeping your kid’s playtime safe.

One factor to particularly looking into is the safe and appropriate surfaces that the indoor playground must have to guard against the impact of falls or slips. Some of the most common surfaces are engineered wood fiber, synthetic or rubber tiles, and poured-in-place rubber. With these safe surfaces, even if your kids fall, they will not be injured seriously as is the case with a concrete surface that could even be life-threatening.

Another important feature to look for is proper openings. Each piece of play equipment must have adequate openings to prevent any unlikely entrapment. If you have little kids, it is very likely that they will crawl through open spaces such as barriers, between bars, and even under guardrails. This is why it is recommended that indoor playground equipment openings should be lower than 3.5 inches or larger than nine inches. This is to prevent head entrapment that may cause strangulation.

Lastly, you also have to take note that each piece of play equipment must have enough spacing in between. You would most likely witness close calls near swings children that run directly into a master swinger. Hence, it is very important that you pay attention to the spacing between equipment as well as slide exit zones. There must be ample space for your kids to move around and prevent overcrowding which is often the cause of injury.
