As the automotive industry continues to show some of its futuristic prototypes in auto shows, they remain secretive about what they are actually planning to manufacture. Therefore, how can we know the future of police vehicle equipment and models when they are kept as state secrets? Though it’s not safe to actually say the absolute but based on the current trends in the vehicle market today, here are a few of the expectations for the next generation of law enforcement automobiles.
Improved Driver Assistance Package
This is a very important inclusion that contains a hazard alert system and collision avoidance technologies and includes a number of possible options. The first one is the safety alert driver seat that offers an option for receiving seat-bottom vibration pulses. Another one is the forward collision alert that utilizes a forward-looking camera and radar to measure the closing speed of the vehicle and the objects along with its path. Moreover, there is also low-speed forward automatic braking which avoids collisions or makes them less damaging. This kind of police vehicle equipment was not provided before on a pursuit-rated vehicle but is now found to be very helpful and effective.
The Hybrid Engine Technology
Most of the hybrid police vehicles are expected from the Big Three auto manufacturers. Hybrid engines may appear to be not required in law enforcement but what makes fleet managers attracted to hybrids is idling. It is a perfect aspect of patrol vehicle operations. When idling, the hybrids utilize the battery and charge it once the police officer drives. Moreover, electric engines are also a good possibility for the next generation of patrol cars. However, among the different types of police vehicle equipment, pure electric vehicles are not ideal in long-running operations. They need recharging that takes a lot longer than waiting in a gas station to fill a tank.
