The Importance of Filtering Welding Fumes




As a welder, you most likely know that gases and fumes generated by your work can cause severe illnesses. Depending on the specific kind of work you are performing, the degree of exposure and its danger would dictate the level of protection and ventilation you or your workers need. While we can’t specifically layout every detail about protecting yourself and the workers from welding fumes, we do believe that using the right welding filter can help protect.


Welding fumes are essentially a combination of metallic oxides, fluorides, and silicates, which are all not good in the air that you breathe into your lungs. Plus, other potential air impurities that can bring more danger to the respiratory systems of your workers. Thankfully, with the use of a proper welding filter, those impurities can be prevented from entering the airways of your workers and you, or at least reduce them significantly.


It is a widely accepted practice that ventilation is a helpful measure that can substantially help lessen the level of harmful fumes. Whether you need to ventilate the whole welding facility or just a specific space, replacing contaminated air with a cleaner and safer one is always the best option. This is why most shops utilize ventilation by using a top-notch welding filter that meets or even exceeds safety standards.


For simple welding processes, there are also disposable masks that can help protect individual welders. While it can be a reliable option at some time, it is not ideal for use in large-scale welding applications. The same applies to airline respirators that though they work, they might not be applicable for most worksites. However, whatever the situation is, it is very important to ensure that welders and those who are working nearby are protected from the health hazards caused by fumes and gases.
