The Importance of Efficient Filtration Upkeep

At the heart of all indoor air quality systems is filtration. It is what makes every working environment free from the undesirable and hazardous particulates that can affect product output and workers’ health. Industrial filters, specifically, have a very important role in ensuring high indoor air quality in many applications that ranges from the small HVAC system to large industrial-process air systems. Despite this, however, these filters can only do their job in keeping the air clean and breathable if they are well taken care of and well-maintained. Good upkeep and maintenance of industrial filters begin from selecting the right media through to proper installation, maintenance, and even replacement.

Without disregarding the relevance of correct filter installation, more significantly, air filters must be regularly checked and maintained well for optimal filtration capacity. Some of the key determining factors of filter performance are scheduled maintenance, pressure drops, humidity, seasonal changes, and other variations in the working environment conditions. In addition, makers of industrial filters can even suggest the installation of a differential pressure measurement tool to help establish the right changing or replacement times. These devices can help provide an automatic alarm for you to know when it’s time to change the filter.

Relying on visual inspections alone may not be enough as our naked eye can only see 40-micron size particles. This means you could be looking at a dirty filter as you see it visually. However, it may not actually reach its optimum efficiency levels and may still have some additional filtering service life to offer. Most importantly, never allow the filter to be loaded excessively. Otherwise, they will not function as expected. The worst thing that can happen is a blow out in which unfiltered air block coils and make air duct get extremely dirty and clogged. Hence, it’s critical to regularly check the filter elements to find out when is the right time to change or replace them.
