There are plenty of industries that need the power of vacuum pumps to get all the essential tasks done. Likewise, there are also different types of pumps that can do a wide variety of functions. A rotary vane vacuum pump is one type of pump that is very flexible and useful in an array of situations and is used in various fields. This pump is very valuable in the automotive, medical and chemical laboratory, as well as in plenty of industrial applications.
How The Pump Operates
A rotary vane vacuum pump works following the principle of positive-displacement wherein the medium passes through its housing or also known as the cylinder or barrel. There is a multitude of vanes inside the vacuum pump that are connected to the moving rotor. This rotor is often offset from the center of the housing which creates eccentricity. Every time the rotor spins, the vanes are forced to move in and out the slotted rotor through centrifugal force or with the help of a push rod. These vanes then seal on the cylinder producing vane chambers that are increasing in volume when they are on the intake side of the pump.
These chambers are then filled with the fluid being forced in by the pressure from the atmosphere or from any system being pumped. At the discharge side of the rotary vane vacuum pump, the volume in the chambers is diminishing and thus forcing the fluid out of the pump. During every rotation, the same volume of fluid is also being released by the vane. These vanes can be of any length and depth making the pump very versatile in size and pumping volume. Hence, the pump is used in various applications such as the espresso and soft drink dispensing machines and air conditioning units.
