The 2 Important Considering In Designing Gears

Some of the major restrictions in the application of splined shaft are related to operational and environmental factors. However, another primary limitation of using this device is its design itself due to some dimensional specifications such as the physical space of the device where it is being utilized. In addition, there is also one important consideration involved which is the transmission requirements for the gears. Depending on the specific design and construction of the gearing device, it can also alter the direction of the movement and increase the torque or output speed of the operation.

It is those specifications and requirements of the application of the gear and the splined shaft that largely influence their optimal type, design, and configuration. These primarily include two things - change in direction and change in torque. When talking about the gears, the change in direction refers to the change in the axis of motion or the direction of the rotation of the gear. Any directional change requirement may influence the optimal kind of gear as each type is essentially characterized by the particular configuration of the gear. For example, spur gear uses parallel configuration while a bevel gear employs an intersecting configuration.

Conversely, in the case of the splined shaft, any directional change made can also affect its design and configuration. The other factor that is the change in torque or in speed occurs once the mated gear or shaft comes in two different sizes or the gear ratio is not equal to one. Depending on which gear or shaft is the smaller or bigger, and which of them has more or fewer teeth, the resulting ratio can produce output torque or speed that is reduced or increased in relation to the input speed or torque.

Finally, the speed and torque are inversely related. It only means that either torque can be increased while the speed is decreased. Not both of them can be increased at the same time. These two change requirements must be considered very well when selecting which particular type and design of gear or splined shaft will be most suited for your application.
