Technologies That Enhance Boring Mill’s Productivity

Most mechanical processes such as boring, milling, drilling, threading, and even creating prismatic components are all possible only if boring mills are made with the right accessories or attachments. These multitask milling operations can now be performed due to the various options and improvements made in the procedures and techniques of the milling technology. Several decades ago, the common question when buying this machine is what size and weight of the biggest part that can be processed. However, nowadays, you are faced with a lot of considerations when working with vertical boring mills as they are becoming more capable because of the various technological advancements,

On top of them is the advent of CNC-powered machines and technologies that make processors even more powerful. They enable the design and manufacturing of more accurate tools and machines, especially the vertical boring mills. The CNC controls make the boring mills create the most intricate part quickly and more precisely.

Another process is the tilting spindle which was improved and designed for creating wind turbine hubs. This improvement made it possible to feed the workpiece on an angle, which was impossible before. Take for example the case of the Tricell, a special setup that has three vertical boring mills. It allows three-sided and simultaneous processing of the hub using just a single operator without the need to be affixed with angular heads.

Finally, the on-machine probing and programming facilitate more benefits for the machinists as well as operators by minimizing errors and scraps. All this because of the reliability and portability of the recent laser scanner probing system which allowed the measurement of the workpiece on the bed itself. This reduces downtime and errors when working with the parts. Moreover, the higher capabilities that are provided by programming offers further equipped the programmer to completely understand the whole process and make adjustments in speed, rate, and tooling, whenever needed.
