Selecting from the Various Types of Plastic Trays

Perhaps you are thinking that a simple plastic tray your bakery needs just requires simple consideration to purchase. After all, they are just plastics. But not really because there are many things to consider. For example, is there a chance of dropping these trays frequently? How much of the temperature in the oven can they handle? Just remember that not all plastic trays are made the same and there are some that work better than others for specific conditions. This is why it’s very important to choose the right plastic tray construction that best suits your needs. Here are the most common types that you can consider.

Polypropylene: A plastic tray made from material becomes very widely popular because of its amazing properties. These trays are very resistant to stain, are also resistant to scratches or breakage, and can handle temperatures that range from 32°F to 180°F. They are also dishwasher and microwave safe. In terms of price, it costs lower than melamine but offers extreme durability.

Melamine: This is one of the oldest trays being used today. Also, the melamine tray is very durable, quick to dry, and has a high resistance to stain. It can manage to deal with temperatures of up to 212°F and is dishwasher safe. However, it is not recommended to use it in the microwave.

Polycarbonate: Though polycarbonate trays are very resistant to breakage, they can still scratch easily. However, what makes this plastic material stand out from other types is its ability to handle a very wide temperature range, from -40°F to 212°F. This is why they are great to be used in a freezer as well as in a microwave and dishwasher.

Co-polymer: This plastic tray is one of those variations made from polypropylene. Being such, polymer shares the same properties with polypropylene trays. It is very resistant to stains, scratches and breakage. It’s also very durable but costs much less. However, co-polymer is not ideal to put into freezers since it can only handle temperatures from 40°F to 210°F.
