Plenty of industrial applications make use of a rotary vane vacuum pump, also known as rotary vane vacuum pump. It is an oil-sealed rotary displacement pumping system which is composed of a housing, an eccentrically installed rotor, the vanes which move under spring force, and both the inlet and outlet valves. It is the inlet valve that remains open during the entire pumping operation as it serves as the safety valve of the vacuum pump.
There is a working chamber where the exchange of the media happens. It is being separated into two sections by the rotor and vanes. The processed gas flows into the enlarging suction chamber of the pump until it will be sealed off by the second valve. The trapped gas inside the chamber is being compressed until the time when the outlet valve opens against the atmospheric pressure.
Just like the rotary vane vacuum pump, a diaphragm vacuum pump is also a positive-displacement pump which consists of a crankshaft-driven connecting rod, head cover, and the housing. The suction chamber is the space between the head cover and the diaphragm. It also needs both inlet and outlet valves to operate and they are usually made from elastomer materials to achieve gas displacement within the working chamber.
A diaphragm pump begins to work as it’s pulled down to create a low pressure in the working chamber. The gas is then sucked into the chamber as the inlet valve opens. In the meantime, the pressure on the other side of the chamber is high and so the outlet valve remains close. The gas or other medium can’t be contaminated by oil and the entire mechanics will not be corroded by other aggressive media because the suction chamber is tightly sealed off from the drive by the diaphragm.
