It is indeed very true that there are so many aspects about helical gears that have to be learned. Before the gear was perfected and was widely used today, there was a lot of debate as to what should be the proper design for this gear set and there was barely a consensus for it. There are two major camps debating this case. The first camp believes that the term “helical” is correctly spoken as “hell-ick-al”. Conversely, the other camp disagrees saying that the right pronunciation is “heel-ick-el”. The latter camp says so because of the fact that the word helical is derived from its root word, helix, and so, “heel-ix”. But we all know it is simply absurd to use such a reason.
But of course, apart from its technical term differentiation, it is more relevant to identify the reason what makes helical gears different from other gears such as spur gears.
