Typically, there are a series of vanes inside the pump that is slotted into the rotating rotor.
This rotor is often offset from the center of the housing which causes eccentricity. Once the rotor rotates, the vanes are pushed to move in and out the rotor through centrifugal force or through the help of pushrod. It is those vanes that seal on the housing, producing vane chambers that are increasing in volume when on the intake side of the rotary pump. These chambers are then filled with the fluid that is forced in by the ambient pressure from the atmosphere or other system being pumped. On the discharge end of the pump, the volume in vane chambers is lowering, which forces the fluid out of the rotary vane pump.
With each rotation cycle of the pump, the same amount of fluid is being pushed out by the vane. These vanes can be made to any length and depth, which makes the rotary vane pump so versatile in terms of size and pumping volume. This is why the pump is utilized in various fields such as the soft drink and coffee dispensing machine as well as air conditioning systems.
