Are you planning to kayak but are worried about how to transport it from the store to your place and to the stream later on? While there might be some kayak racks you can find in the market, you would be delighted to know that there is a much easier and cheaper solution to this problem. That is the pool noodles. Yes, you can use this very versatile foam material in transporting your kayak without the use of a rack. The steps are pretty simple and easy.
The first step is to place and secure the pool noodles on top of the vehicle. You have to make sure that the noodle is cut in the right shape and length of your car. The foam has to sit across your car’s roof without protruding on both sides by trimming it. The noodles are able to give your kayak a very strong and durable base that can protect the roof of your car from any accidental abrasion.
Depending on the size of your vehicle, place the pool noodles approximately every three feet while ensuring that you have one in the middle and two more in the rear and front. After securing the noodles on the roof, use the straps now through the hole at the center of the pool noodles and inside your car.
Once the noodles are now fully secured, it is time to secure the kayak on top of the roof of your car. Ask for some help if needed to make sure that the kayak is properly placed atop the car’s roof. Position it in a manner that the cockpit faces down. The pool noodles would be enough to ensure that the kayak won’t do any damage to your vehicle while securing it in place. Finally, secure the kayak in place through the ratchet straps inside your car. Then voila, you are all set to enjoy kayaking.
