How to Clean Ducts

Many of us think that the air inside our homes is much cleaner than outside. However, this is not always the case particularly if you are not always on top of cleaning your air ducts. If you can’t remember when the last time was that you have it cleaned, then it might be the right time to find and rent or buy a duct cleaning air compressor to help you with the task. If it’s your first time to do this job, then here is a quick tip that can help you begin and complete it.

#1. Start the cleaning by covering all the supply air coming from your ductwork. This will keep the removed dust and dirt from entering them and into the other rooms. You may use paper towels or old newspapers to cover the top of the registers.

#2. The next step is to adjust the option on the thermostat to fan-only. This will help you remove the dust as you brush inside the duct. In case you don’t have this option, you can resort to turning on the heat mode instead.

#3. This time you can do the actual work by loosening all the build-up of dirt and dust using the handle of the brush, breaking up any accumulated debris inside the duct.

#4. Now, get the duct cleaning air compressor and sweep out the dust in the supply registers by positioning the hose near them to catch the dislodge dust. Go as deep as you can into the piping of the duct to reach more dust.

#5. Perform the step in cleaning the return air registers while going deeper as far as you can reach with the duct cleaning air compressor hose.

#6. Finally, it’s time to clean the blower compartment and the return air boot where most of the dust buildup can be found. However, please note that you turned off the fan first and the entire power in the panel. Finish off by sweeping all the removed dust you get out of the duct. Then, that’s it. You can give yourself a break for a job well done.
