Helpful Tips When Selling Wire Scrap

Given the various types of scrap wires available to salvage from construction sites and other worksites, leaving these valuable materials unaccounted for or disposed of in landfills seemed illogical. So, if you happen to come across them or if you are working in electrical companies, paying them attention is worth your time. Whatever kind of wire you collected, be it an aluminum or copper wire scrap, almost all of them are recyclable. There are just some important pointers to keep in mind to be successful in this rewarding endeavor.

Tip #1. Avoid stripping the insulation from the wire

You might be tempted to strip the insulation from the copper wire scrap you have gathered. That is a big no-no because doing it by hand is dangerous and will also strip the value of the wire you are going to sell. Also, remember that the value of the wire is based on a given unique recovery formula for every kind of wire. In the processing facility, the insulation will be removed through the use of a wire-chopping machine.

Tip #2. Remove the contaminants

The highest valued insulated copper wire scrap is the type of wire scrap that has no other contaminants present while the next type may contain other metals that decrease the value of the purity of the wire. Some of these contaminants include plates, solders, end fittings, and connectors. Removing these non-copper materials can help increase the value and so, the price of the wire scrap.

Tip #3. Deal only with the trusted processing facility

It is advised that you work only with scrap yard that is capable of processing copper wire scrap and other recyclable materials. It will allow you to get rid of the middleman costs, thus increasing the value of your wire scrap. Ultimately, work only with someone you can trust or a dealer that has a proven good track record so that you really get the right price for your scrap.
